Success Stories

April had worked in management at a car dealership for five years when medical issues forced her to quit her job. After two years on welfare, she was ready to go back to work but knew she didn't want to return to a management position.

"I felt like I needed to brush up on my skills and increase my sense of self worth" she says.

April had a love for animals and thought she might want to open a kennel, so Goodwill placed her in a work-experience at an animal shelter.

It didn't take long for April to find out that wasn't the job for her, so Goodwill Employment Specialist Rich Buroker helped her obtain a work-experience with the Kennewick Fire Department and Benton County Fire District 1's joint training facility.

Now she is an office assistant for the fire district and says she "absolutely loves it." Best of all, she's off of welfare.

"I learned a lot about myself while in Goodwill's Community Jobs program" she says. "I want Goodwill to be proud of me, they did a great job."
